One beautiful autumn day, Sherri and her husband Cary were walking downtown with their son Chandler, 5. They passed a hardware store displaying shiny new bikes on the sidewalk. A colorful bike caught Chandler's eye and he stopped to look at it.
Cary said, "Well, maybe Santa will bring you one for Christmas."
Chandler said, "I don't want a bike from Santa -- I want one from the store!"
In an effort to solicit cash to pay for a charity Christmas dinner in 1891, a large crabpot was set down on a San Francisco street, becoming the first Salvation Army collection kettle.
